God's Plan for
Eating Healthy

Many people stay in some sort of bondage daily from weight issues. I wrote this page in order for you to see God's plan for eating healthy, rather you struggle to lose weight, manage the weight you are at, or need to gain weight. Any of these issues can become constant battles in daily living.

When suffering from weight issues, it begins to impact our lives in many other ways. We begin to look down upon ourselves because today's world highlights the slender "model look" and therefore our own self-esteem begins to plunge. Romans 8:1 explains that God doesn't look down on us if we are overweight by stating "There is therefore no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus". God has an unconditional love for His children, no matter what we look like or what we do, he is always there. He has made us worthy of His love and He wants us to depend on Him. Our weight and our weaknesses have nothing to do with who we are in Christ, but He does expect us to do our part.

In the book of Genesis, God actually gave us a good lesson about eating healthy in the story of Adam and Eve. Out of all of the trees in the garden, he told them that they could eat from any of them EXCEPT one. Why did He not want them to eat from that one tree?? He knew it was bad for them! This is the same lesson He wants for us today! Simply translated - we can eat of the foods that he has provided for us (in moderation)and we should stay away from the foods that are not good for us. How many times do you go out to eat at a nice restaurant and you eat until you feel miserable?? This is overeating and your body is telling you that you shouldn't have eaten so much! How many times have you eaten greasy or spicy foods and had severe heartburn or indigestion? How many times have you consumed soft drinks and suffered bloating or cramping? This is your body telling you that those foods are not good for your body and you shouldn't eat them. Take notice of those types of foods that cause ill symptoms and stay away from them.

As Christians, we are to let the Holy Spirit guide our ways, even when it comes to eating. I'm not saying to spend 30 minutes listening before you eat anything, I'm just saying to pause and think about your food, if it is good for your body, if it causes you to feel poorly, and ask for guidance. If we choose to walk in the flesh, we will continue to have problems. If we choose to walk in the spirit, God promises us joy, peace, and victory. My best advice is to get on track with God's plan and let the Holy Spirit lead you regarding your eating habits, but also perform some exercises, and get the proper amount of sleep. If you struggle with your weight, choose to take authority over your own body with the help of the Holy Spirit and you will begin to see changes.

One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11, which says "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome". This is such a wonderful verse of hope! He has a plan for every one of us. In Galatians 6:7, he talks about his law of sowing and reaping. If you are not following God's plan for your eating habits, what then will you reap? Take some time with God and ask him for his guidance. You will begin to feel better by eating the foods that he has put on this earth for us (organic when possible). When you make good choices, you will become happier and healthier. His ways will surely change your life!
